Leslie Jones had a comically bad time learning Pedro Pascal's name.

The former *Saturday Night Live* cast member, who was part of the big *SNL50 anniversary *special in February, recalls meeting the *Last of Us* actor as one of her favorite moments from the experience. If only she could have remembered his name when they met.

The special as a whole was "everything," she said.**

"And Pedro, is it Pedro?" she asked on Vulture's *Good One *podcast, still struggling with his name. "Let me tell you, [I] called him Pablo until he told me his name is Pedro. So, I was like, 'Pablo, Pablo.' And he was like, 'Pedro.' And I was like, 'Pablo.' He's like, 'Pedro.' And I was like, 'Who the f— is Pedro?' And he was like, 'That's my name.'"

That finally convinced her.

"I was like, 'Oh, okay. I'll call you Pedro. Even though Pablo's better,'" she said before laughing.

"He's so cute, too," the comedian added.

Jones, who was a regular on the NBC sketch series from 2014 to 2019, was one of the dozens of former cast members who descended on Studio 8H for the epic evening. She took part in a "Black Jeopardy" sketch along with fellow alums Eddie Murphy, Tracy Morgan, and Chris Rock, and longtime cast member Kenan Thompson.

Pascal, who hosted the sketch show in 2023, was one of the many celebrities who were part of the night's list of non-cast performers, which also included the likes of Scarlett Johansson, who happens to be the wife of "Weekend Update" cohost Colin Jost, and 10-time host Tom Hanks.

Pascal joined the fun as part of the "Domingo: Vow Renewal" sketch, featuring Marcello Hernández's recurring character. Pascal and Bad Bunny played the lothario's hot brothers. Sabrina Carpenter and *SNL *alums Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Andy Samberg, Martin Short, and Molly Shannon were also part of the sketch alongside several current cast members.

"I was the first record scratch of the night by missing my cues like three times in a row," the *Mandalorian* star scolded himself about coming in at the wrong time.

"I remember thinking, 'F---! I f---ed it up!'" Pascal said. "I was really, really upset with myself for missing the cues. I feel like there was a cognitive and auditory failure on my part where I was so nervous I really couldn't hear what was happening or what the cue was. I guess no matter what kind of singing and how bad or funny it's supposed to be, I have just sheer terror of having to sing in any kind of capacity."

Let's just blame that one on Pablo.**

Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb in 'Slow Horses' season 5

- Season 5 of Apple TV's *Slow Horses* wrapped on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

- The series, which stars Gary Oldman as Slough House boss Jackson Lamb, is currently prepping its sixth and seventh seasons.

- Season 6 will see the return of Hugo Weaving's Frank Harkness.

*Slow Horses* is a rarity in our modern slate of awards-hungry prestige series: a clever genre fusion with a bankable star that cranks out new seasons in months, not years.

Since debuting on Apple TV in 2022, the Gary Oldman-starring spy thriller has aired five seasons. And its quick turnaround hasn't impacted its awards potential. So far, *Slow Horses* has won two Emmys, as well as a slew of Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, among other accolades.

Its fast and furious production schedule does, however, have its casualties. Creator, writer, and executive producer Will Smith recently announced he'd be leaving the show following its fifth season, which just wrapped on Oct. 29, due to the quick turnaround.

You may be asking what that means for the future of *Slow Horses.* Will there be a season 6? If so, what books from Mick Herron's *Slough House *novels will be adapted next? Here's everything we know.**

Will there be a season 6 of Slow Horses?

Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb and Jack Lowden as River in 'Slow Horses' season 5.

Yes, Apple renewed *Slow Horses* for a sixth season in October 2024, and then for a seventh season in July 2025.

"*Slow Horses* has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action," said Apple TV's Jay Hunt in a press release. "I'm delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary's magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses' slightly inept spycraft."

Speaking with *TheWrap*, Smith revealed writers Gaby Chiappe and Ben Vanstone, both new to the series, will oversee seasons 6 and 7, respectively. According to Oldman, season 6 will be directed by Adam Randall, who previously helmed *Slow Horse*'s fourth season.**

"It's an amazing team. It's an amazing cast. It's an amazing production," Smith said. "It will [keep going], and Mick is still writing amazing books, so it will continue to fly and keep getting better and better."

Per a press release, season 7 will adapt Herron's 2022 book *Bad Actors *as it sees Oldman's Jackson Lamb and his team attempt to "find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government."

But we're getting ahead of ourselves...**

What is Slow Horses season 6 about?

Season 6 of *Slow Horses* will adapt not one, but two books from Herron's series: 2019's *Joe Country* and 2021's *Slough House. *Per a press release, season 6 finds the Slow Horses "on the run" amid a "fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge."

Kick-starting the events of season 6 is Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), the MI5 boss who was promoted from Second Desk to First Desk at the end of season 5. Her newfound power, it seems, won't bode well for our often hapless heroes.

If you, like some critics, found season 5 to be more focused on comedy than action, you'll be pleased to know that season 6 has been described as "high-octane" by two different cast members.**

"The sequences in season six are jaw-droppingly good," said Christopher Chung, who plays arrogant tech whiz Roddy Ho, in an interview with *Schön*. "It's a lot more action-heavy, very high-octane."

Ruth Bradley, who plays MI5 agent Emma Flyte, made similar remarks to *Town & Country*. "It's very high-octane. It's very tense, it's very thriller. It's really good," she said. "The next season is huge."

Is there a Slow Horses season 6 trailer?

A trailer for season 6 of *Slow Horses* followed the season 5 finale, confirming that Slough House is "completely missing" (a.k.a. in hiding) after a leak leaves them vulnerable. "We don't exist anymore," intones Roddy.

The trailer also reveals the return of Frank Harkness (Hugo Weaving), father of Jack Lowden's River Cartwright. The cold-blooded mercenary and CIA veteran was last seen in season 4, when he escaped accountability for his crimes due to his organization's history with MI5.

Who's in the cast of Slow Horses season 6?

Gary Oldman in "Slow Horses"

The central *Slow Horses* cast will return for season 6, with Oldman, Lowden, Chung, Bradley, and Thomas reprising their roles alongside Saskia Reeves, Samuel West, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Tom Brooke, Joanna Scanlan, and Jonathan Pryce.

Weaving's return as Frank Harkness is highlighted in the season 6 trailer, which also features new characters played by Harry Lloyd (*Game of Thrones*) and Lenny Rush (*Am I Being Unreasonable?*). As of this writing, specifics regarding their roles are still forthcoming.**

Is there a Slow Horses season 6 release date?

*Slow Horses* season 6 has no firm release date, as of this writing, but Chung revealed to *Schön* that filming wrapped in February 2025, so fans won't need to wait too long.

If season 6 is anything like the last two seasons — which arrived in September 2024 and September 2025, respectively — it's likely to debut in the fall of 2026.**

- *Love Is Blind *season 9 brought together singles in Denver.**

- Six couples got engaged in the pods, but only two made it to the altar.

- Reunion revelations included relationship updates, new babies, and other surprises.

Since premiering on Netflix in 2020, *Love Is Blind* has conducted an ongoing "experiment" in which singles endeavor to fall in love (and propose marriage) without ever seeing their would-be partner.

Typically, at least one couple per season says "I do," but season 9's cast of Denver singles broke that pattern completely. Only two of its six couples made it to the altar, and neither left with rings on their fingers.

It's been a little over a year since filming wrapped, and the cast recently came back together for a reunion special. Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, the gathering offered several apologies, some juicy gossip about post-filming hook-ups, and the announcement that one former participant is now a mom.

Here's the full breakdown on where the *Love Is Blind *season 9 former couples stand today.

Megan and Jordan

**Status:** No longer together

Jordan and "Sparkle" Megan seemed like a great match, connecting through humor, passion, and shared history. Right before the wedding, however, Megan called off the engagement due to their lifestyles and priorities being too different. She also realized that parenting, specifically becoming a stepmom to Jordan's young son, was more daunting than she thought.

During the reunion, the former couple looked back on their journey before Megan surprised everyone with a shocking life update: She's now a mom.

After filming wrapped, Megan began dating Paul, a friend of a friend, and found herself pregnant after just three months of dating. Megan has since welcomed a baby boy named Brooks, whom she described as her "whole world."

She added, "I now know more than ever I was meant on this earth to be a mom. He's amazing and our family is very happy."

Jordan shared that he knew about Megan's baby, explaining that he reached out after "some disgusting person" messaged him on Instagram trying to stir up drama.

"She was very transparent, which I appreciate," he said. "If I would've found out right here, right now I think that would have been jarring, so I appreciate the transparency and the honesty. You're gonna be great parents, and I have no doubt in my mind about that."**

Kalybriah and Edmond

Kalybriah and Edmond in 'Love Is Blind' season 9

**Status:** No longer together

Kalybriah and Edmond made it to the altar. Edmond said yes, but KB turned him down, saying he deserves someone who is fully ready for marriage.

After getting engaged in the pods, KB and Edmond struggled with communication and frequently argued over intimacy and off-camera behavior. Despite their best efforts to make it work, the problems proved to be too great, and they split in the season 9 finale.

At the reunion, KB said she felt Edmond's emotional outbursts were manipulative. Edmond denied that, saying, "It just hurts hearing her say that. I don't think I'm trying to be like that. I think it's coming off like that, but I need you to understand that I wouldn't make the same mistake again."

After some heated back-and-forth, the former couple ended on a positive note and shared a hug.**

Ali and Anton

Anton and Ali in 'Love Is Blind' season 9

Courtesy of Netflix

**Status:** No longer together

The first couple to get engaged in *Love Is Blind *season 9 was Ali and Anton. All signs pointed to them having a successful marriage, but things got difficult when they moved in together. The couple fought about money, household chores, and Anton's alleged reputation as a party animal.

At the altar, Anton said "I do." Ali, however, said she couldn't marry him because, in her words, "The person that I fell in love with in the pods isn't the person I've gotten to experience in real life."

The exes hashed things out at the reunion. Ali claimed it was really difficult to have "any serious, real deep conversations" with him. Anton said he was "sick" of hearing about all of this and later revealed that he's been dating his new girlfriend, Miranda, for a year. Ali chose not to share any details about her love life.**

Madison and Joe

**Status:** No longer together

From the start, it was pretty obvious that things between Madison and Joe weren't going to work out the way they hoped. Joe admitted that Madison wasn't his usual type and treated her poorly after a night of hard partying during the cast's post-pod engagement trip to Mexico.

As the experiment went on, Joe's nerves only got worse, especially as Madison's excitement for their future together grew. He reached a breaking point during his tux fitting and called off the engagement, leaving Madison heartbroken.

After filming, Joe briefly dated fellow cast member Kacie, though their relationship quickly fizzled out. At the reunion, Madison claimed that Joe's chemistry with Kacie "affected [her] engagement," though Kacie claimed she and Joe didn't connect until after he split with Madison. Madison also revealed that Kacie once joked they were "Eskimo sisters."

Madison and Joe also revealed that they met for dinner a few weeks after leaving the show and ended up making out, though Madison said the encounter didn't bring her any closure.

She also admitted it was "very frustrating" to watch the season back, particularly when Joe made comments about her body. "In today's day and age, it's unacceptable to talk about somebody in that way," she said. Joe apologized for his remarks.

As for their current love lives, Madison appears to be single, while Joe has moved on with his current girlfriend, a dating coach named Averee Madison.**

Annie and Nick

Annie and Nick in 'Love Is Blind' season 9

**Status:** No longer together

Trust ended up being what that tore Annie and Nick apart. Annie constantly worried about Nick's commitment, convincing herself she loved him more than he loved her and questioning whether he actually cared about her. It all became too much for Nick, who broke up with Annie despite her pleas to stay. He told Annie he was unhappy and didn't want to get married, and they went their separate ways.

At the reunion, Nick responded to accusations that he "love-bombed" Annie and his other pod connection, Kait. He apologized to Kait, but she dismissed it as "performative" and said that, in the pods, it felt like Nick "went into ChatGPT and looked up pickup lines for how to get a girl to fall for you."

Annie stood up for her ex-fiancé, saying she believed Nick's intentions were "genuine." Looking back, though, she admitted it was pretty clear they were trying to force a relationship that wasn't meant to be.

Today, the two remain on "friendly" terms. Annie is in a new relationship, while Nick is single.**

Kacie and Patrick

Kacie and Patrick in 'Love Is Blind' season 9

Kacie and Patrick in 'Love Is Blind' season 9.

**Status:** No longer together

Kacie and Patrick were the first *Love Is Blind *season 9 couple to call it quits.

After getting engaged and meeting in person, Kacie began having doubts and told production she wasn't attracted to Patrick before heading home. Patrick suggested giving things a try back at home, but later revealed that he hadn't seen his former fiancée since leaving the pods. She also refused to give him back the engagement ring.

The two confronted the awkward situation at the reunion. Kacie said her heart broke rewatching their final moments on the show together. She also claimed that Patrick told her she could keep the engagement ring, which he denied.

He said that it seemed Kacie was having a "hard time" telling him the truth about why she bailed on their budding relationship, though, as he previously told EW, he's not as "clueless" as he may have appeared.

Kacie also addressed her brief post-show fling with Joe, which Patrick admitted he "had no idea" about prior to the reunion.

After a tense exchange, Kacie ultimately apologized to Patrick and handed the engagement ring back to him (via Nick Lachey). But he returned it to her after she beat him in a friendly basketball game (with a little help from Los Angeles Clippers player Chris Paul).**

- Whoopi Goldberg was censored on *The View.*

- The cohosts reacted in shock to the Oscar-winning actress' words, which were muted on the air.

- After EW reached out for clarification over the censored word, Goldberg had an outburst on the air.

Whoopi Goldberg made a remark that was censored on live TV on Thursday's *The View*, and later had a bizarre outburst on the air after ** reached out to a show representative for comment.

Shortly after the 69-year-old announced conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's upcoming appearance on the show, Goldberg said that the ongoing, historic U.S. government shutdown "should not be affecting the American people," and that "these are decisions that you don't have the right to..." and appeared to begin saying the F-word.

In the video above, the show's audio can be heard cutting out, censoring whatever Goldberg said next.

When the audio came back on during the broadcast, the audience could be heard gasping — while cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin raised her hands to her face in shock, and Sunny Hostin pursed her lips.

"You caught it!" Griffin said, though Goldberg kept her own hands over her face for several seconds as she playfully looked around with a comical expression on her face.

"Well, you know where I'm at," Goldberg said, before throwing the show to a commercial break.

EW then sent an email to a show representative noting that it appeared that Goldberg had cursed and requesting comment on the censored moment, as is standard journalism practice.**

The show's publicist did not respond to EW's comment request, but when the show returned from a commercial break minutes later, Goldberg addressed the incident on the air.

"Just so we're all clear, our people just got a call, saying, 'Whoopi just said a bad word. Do you have a comment?' I didn't say the bad word. I did not say it," she said. "But, so, I know that you're sitting, waiting for me to do something, waiting for something to happen. Could you just watch the show? I'd appreciate it if you just watched the show, and then you'll know what really went on."

She continued, saying, "And do play it back the 50 times that you're going to do."

When he takes the mound Friday night, Kevin Gausman will live out the dream of every MLB free agent. After years of struggling to find his footing in the majors, Gausman became the best version of himself at age 30, just before hitting the free-agent market.

The Toronto Blue Jays, desperately in need of a front-line ace after losing Robbie Ray to the market, needed to find that one player to take them from playoff hopeful to World Series contender.

It took a few years, but Gausman accomplished just that. Despite a few bumps in the road here and there, and some concern over his age, Gausman proved to be the perfect signing for the Blue Jays back in 2022. He not only lived up to his deal, but legitimized the team as a contender for other talented free agents.

So, it's only fitting that Gausman will take the mound with a World Series championship in the balance. With the Blue Jays up 3-2, Gausman will get the call at home Friday night in front of what will almost certainly be a deafening Toronto crowd. With a win, Gausman can etch himself into Blue Jays lore as one of the greatest signings the team ever made.

A win is far from guaranteed, however. The Los Angeles Dodgers will counter with their ace, second-year starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The 27-year-old is on one heck of a postseason run, tossing complete games in each of his last two outings.

It will take everything Gausman — and the Blue Jays' lineup — has to match Yamamoto on Friday. But if they can stop his dominant streak, a massive celebration and months of being known as the reigning World Series champions await.

When Trey Yesavage returned to the Blue Jays' clubhouse after pitching the biggest game of his life, a ceramic, pear-shaped, $100 bottle of tequila was waiting in his locker.

"I don't know what it is, but he deserved it," Toronto closer Jeff Hoffman said. "But is he even old enough to drink it?"

Yes, by 458 days in the U.S. and by 1,189 in Ontario, Canada. The Dodgers' visiting clubhouse attendants, who left the congratulatory gift in the rookie's locker, likely knew as much. That well-earned jug of Mandala Reposado will accompany Yesavage on the Jays' plane, where the fruits of his labor will surely be shared with many of his teammates. It will be a long flight home but a happy one. That's because the Toronto Blue Jays, after a resounding 6-1 victory in World Series Game 5, are just a single win away from a championship.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) — NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps said Friday "we are trying our hardest" to settle the federal antitrust lawsuit with the two teams suing the racing series in the most expansive comments yet from the defendants.

Phelps read from a statement that ran over six minutes and took no questions on the litigation between 23XI Racing, owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, and Bob Jenkins-owned Front Row Motorsports.

Both sides recently participated in two days of mediation and didn't come to a resolution, but NASCAR had been hoping that continued conversations would lead to a settlement it could announce ahead of Sunday's championship-deciding season finale.

"NASCAR is fully aligned with our race team partners who have submitted declarations hoping to end this litigation," Phelps said at Phoenix Raceway in the annual state of the sport news conference.

"We are trying our hardest. I am trying my hardest both as a fan as well as the commissioner of this sport that I've loved since I was 5 years old. While two out of the 15 teams may not share that view and seem set on an unfortunate court battle, I hope that we can all agree that our racing is as good as it has ever been and we care about how we serve our fans, especially as we look forward to capping off our season by celebrating new champions across all of our national series."

NASCAR this weekend will crown its champions in the Truck Series, Xfinity Series and finally the season-ending Cup Series finale on Sunday. Hamlin is one of four drivers eligible for the winner-take-all title.

The lawsuit was filed a year ago by 23XI Racing, co-owned by NBA Hall of Famer Jordan and three-time Daytona 500 winner Hamlin. Front Row Racing, a much smaller team, aligned with 23XI and they were the only two organizations out of 15 to not sign extensions last year on new charter agreements.

The new charter agreements were presented to the teams at the start of the 2024 playoffs with a deadline for them to sign. It followed over two years of tense negotiations over the charters, which are at the heart of NASCAR's business model as they guarantee revenue and access to weekly races.

23XI and Front Row likely will go out of business without them and are racing this season unchartered, which comes with significantly reduced prize money.

Other teams have called for a settlement to move forward, but mediation sessions and private negotiations have not worked. The trial is scheduled for Dec. 1.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth Bell this week dismissed NASCAR's countersuit against Curtis Polk, the longtime business manager for Jordan and one of 23XI's owners.

NASCAR has routinely refused to discuss the lawsuit but Phelps made an exception Friday with his prepared statement.

"This is not an antitrust case. The 2025 charter agreement is an improvement on the 2016 framework," Phelp said as he read off enhancements that include "over $3 billion in guaranteed payments to the teams, enterprise value that is roughly $1.5 billion now to the race teams, guaranteed starting positions each week that allow teams to sell sponsorship on the best billboards in sports, the Next Gen car, and charters guaranteed for 14 years until at least 2039, plus an obligation to negotiate in good faith beyond that.

"The bottom line here is NASCAR is committed to charters."

Phelps also defended the Florida-based France family who founded the sport in 1948, financially supports it and has grown it into the top motorsports series in the United States.

"The France family started NASCAR in 1948 using their own resources, grit and ingenuity. They have taken countless personal and financial risks, investing billions of dollars and untold hours into growing this sport to create opportunity for teams to race in front of fans for nearly eight decades," Phelps said. "We are proud of what we built for fans together with the race teams, especially since the charters were introduced. ... We'll continue to defend and preserve it.

"Make no mistake, the lawsuit puts this at risk."

Ever since he first picked up a tennis racket, João Fonseca has shown a penchant for power – even if it came with mixed results.

"I was the kind of kid that destroyed the ball," says Fonseca. "Sometimes, it would go into the fence; sometimes, it would go straight to the floor; and then, sometimes, we're doing a winner."

That approach – fearless, furious and unrestrained – has stayed with the Brazilian into his professional career, and today, his ripping forehand is one of the most breathtaking sights in men's tennis.

Few players can match the 19-year-old Fonseca when it comes to raw power, particularly on the forehand wing. This not-so-subtle, not-so-secret weapon has guided him to two ATP Tour titles this year, including in the Swiss city of Basel last week.

There, Fonseca thumped 29 winners to see off Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final, while his average forehand speed was clocked at 81 miles per hour. For comparison, top players usually average around 75.

"I think my coach was really the first one that said: 'Keep with this aggression,'" Fonseca tells CNN Sports about his all-out approach. "'Keep doing this, but at the same time, let's work with being more solid.'

"During these last years, I understood that you can't hit the ball hard every time … Sometimes, it's a stupid idea, of course, but sometimes, it's good to be aggressive, to be courageous and have confidence in your shots."

Lifting the title in Basel saw Fonseca become the third-youngest ATP 500 winner since the format was introduced in 2009, as well as the tournament's youngest winner since Jim Courier in 1989.

Still a teenager, Fonseca's potential is huge, his freakish power likely to become more of a threat as he develops and refines his game. To some, he is destined to join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner – by far and away the standout players in men's tennis this year – at the very top of the game.

"The Brazilian Blaster (Fonseca) is a generational talent as I said 2 years ago and will be right there someday with the Italian Flamethrower (Sinner) and Spanish Magician (Alcaraz)," Rick Macci, the former coach to Serena Williams, wrote on X recently.

Those players, Macci added, will "create a new big three" to replace Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Davidovich Fokina spoke along the same lines during his runner-up speech in Basel, telling Fonseca that he is "for sure going to be the next Nole (Djokovic) to beat Carlos and Jannik."

After winning last year's Next Gen ATP Finals title – a tournament featuring the world's best players under 20 – Fonseca turned heads at the Australian Open in January with a straight-sets victory over ninth seed Andrey Rublev.

He followed that up by winning the Argentina Open a month later, becoming the second-youngest South American to win an ATP title in the Open Era.

But Fonseca's progress hasn't been exponential. He failed to progress past the third round of a grand slam this year, perhaps a surprise after the enormous promise he showed at the start of the season.

The victory in Basel, however, reaffirmed his status as one of the most explosive talents in the game, with Fonseca climbing 18 spots up the rankings to No. 28. That puts him well on track to fulfill his self-ascribed objectives for next year.

"I think one of my goals is to be a seed, top 32 (at a grand slam)," says Fonseca. "It's my personal goal. I'm working a lot to do it … let's see how it goes."

To get to this level, Fonseca had to spend his formative years building a bond with tennis. As a young player, the game would make him feel restless, and he often found himself chasing big, haymaking shots on the court. He was even more impatient off it, unable to watch a full match without losing interest.

That changed around 2019, when Fonseca sat absorbed as Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in a Wimbledon final lasting four hours and 57 minutes – the longest final in the tournament's history.

A self-proclaimed Federer superfan, that match hurt Fonseca. As he started to enjoy tennis as a spectator, he would often watch the "Big 3" play out match after memorable match on the sport's biggest stages, but it was the Swiss star who captivated him the most.

"He's my idol," Fonseca confesses. Which goes some way to explaining why he suddenly found himself a sweaty, nervous wreck before meeting Federer for the first time in September.

"We had a nice chat, about 10 minutes, and we talked a little bit about life, tour, how it is to live in Brazil and be far from home," says Fonseca, adding: "He's a super nice guy. You see these amazing players, these legends, as untouchable (and think): this guy is different. But no, he's just a human being like us, super cool.

"It was a very important moment; it's going to be in my mind for my whole life."

It's likely that the two might cross paths again, particularly given that Fonseca is sponsored by On – the sportswear company in which Federer has invested and helped with product development. The Brazilian was only 16 when he was signed by On and earmarked as a star in the making, joining a roster that includes six-time grand slam winner Iga Świątek and world No. 7 Ben Shelton.

Several years earlier, Fonseca had made the decision to focus his sporting endeavors solely on tennis, not long after a soccer injury had left him sidelined for months.

Like most kids growing up in Rio de Janeiro, soccer was, and still is, one of his great loves, even though his playing days have long since passed.

"I was a good level," says Fonseca. "I'm a lefty leg, I had some skills, but nothing serious. I wouldn't be professional or whatever. Fortunately, I stayed with tennis."

After reaching the quarterfinals of last year's Rio Open aged 17, Fonseca decided to forego his college eligibility – he was holding a place at the University of Virginia – and turn professional.

Since then, his march up the world rankings has been steady, quickly earning him an army of dedicated fans. Fonseca's matches are some of the loudest on tour, and regardless of whether he's playing in Brazil or further afield, yellow-and-green-clad spectators are guaranteed whenever he's on a tennis court.

It's taken time, Fonseca admits, to grow accustomed to playing in front of such raucous crowds.

"At the beginning, I was super nervous," he says. "I needed to win, and there are people watching me, there are people cheering for me. The culture of Brazil is super loud, a lot of people supporting, I'll say a little bit because of football.

"I got used a lot to the crowd. Nowadays, I love playing with the crowd. I love them supporting me. I love that sometimes I'm in a bad situation in the match and they're still supporting me, still cheering and motivating me.

"I was more like a shy guy," he adds, "and now I'm loving it."

Playing in loud matches at big tournaments is likely to be a mainstay of Fonseca's career. He is slowly accumulating more experience against the world's best players but hasn't yet faced Djokovic – he's hopeful of doing so before the Serb, now 38, retires – nor has he played either Alcaraz or Sinner.

Those kinds of matches might become a regular occurrence should Fonseca, armed with that ferocious forehand, continue his march up the rankings. For now, he is watching closely as two players just a few years his senior rule over men's tennis, sharing the past eight grand slams equally between them.

One day, Fonseca might be in a position to challenge their duopoly.

"What they're doing is amazing," he says of Alcaraz and Sinner. "They're winning every tournament that they play.

"They motivate all the other players to put more work in day by day, and try to be with them, try to win more tournaments, try to win matches, be more consistent. Hopefully, in the future, I will be with them, playing and competing in finals. But one step at a time, and let's put in the work."

The rematch of last season's AFC championship game is here.

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have that look again as a Super Bowl team, will face the Buffalo Bills in Upstate New York on Sunday for Week 9's game of the week.

Siciliano summed it up for the Buffalo faithful:

"I know a lot of Bills fans that will go, 'Eh, OK, cool. Like it was worth the ride on Sunday. I had a good time. I'd rather have them win than lose, certainly. And maybe this factors when it comes to where this game is going to be played when they meet again [in the playoffs], but it's going to ring real hollow. What stands out to me is that the Bills still have trouble stopping the run."

Indeed, Buffalo has work to do against ground attacks. The Bills enter Week 9 giving up 150.3 yards per game, which is 31st in the league with only Cincinnati faring worse.

The trade deadline, which is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET, matters for the Bills, and this matchup could further highlight what they need.

"I definitely think this game for the Bills in particular, they're sitting there and they've been kicking around wide receiver options on the trade market trying to figure out can we find maybe a low end No. 1 who is a legit No. 1 like a Jakobi Meyers maybe from the Raiders," Robinson said.

"And now with Ed Oliver, that injury, now they're sitting there and going, do we need to go out and look for a defensive piece where we can plug somebody into that spot because that's such a massive loss for them?"

Losing to Buffalo in the regular season isn't new for KC. The Chiefs have lost the past four regular-season matchups against the Bills. It's almost a cruel tease to Bills Mafa considering the Chiefs in the Mahomes era have owned Buffalo in the postseason — when it matters. The four January victories have come in wide varieties from convincing to heartbreaking from a Bills fan perspective.

So what's the big gain here for KC?

Mostly, it's potential for KC to improve from its current wild-card slot and keep pushing for what seems to be its birthright, the AFC West crown. The Chiefs trail the 6-2 Denver Broncos by a game and are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers at 5-3.

But it's also a potential for the Chiefs to continue their show of force after a meh start to the season.

"Right now, Kansas City's offense is humming. It's humming 415 yards a game since Week 4, which is just absurd," Siciliano said.

The Vegas oddsmakers, including BetMGM, are certainly buying into KC (which is likely to trigger more moans over Chiefs fatigue. Sorry, folks). Fawkes polled five of them and they all had the Chiefs as their Super Bowl favorite now.

"All of them now had the Chiefs atop their power ratings, several of them for the first time this season because a lot of them had the Bills before the season.

"A lot of them had the Ravens, some had the Eagles. This was the first time where it was unanimous. It was all the Chiefs. … So the Chiefs are high in Vegas' power ratings. Patrick Mahomes is the MVP favorite. The Chiefs are the Super Bowl Bowl favorite. It kind of seems like all is back to right in the NFL world."
