Neil Harris' side were looking to build on their impressive start to the campaign, hosting the Black Cats, who started the day top of the Championship table under Regis Le Bris. The game was just 41 minutes old when the referee brought a halt to proceedings, with players sent to the changing rooms while medics attended to the two incidents in the stands.
